C.1.A - Long Bone / Joint Immobilization Station
Objectives:
1. Demonstrate the care of musculoskeletal injuries. (p 1018–1020, Skill Drill 29-2) 2. Demonstrate the assessment of neurovascular status. (pp 1015–1017, Skill Drill 29-1) Setup: - 4 cravats - 2 splints (2 leg-size and 2 arm-size – can be boards or SAM-type splints) - One student should serve as patient, another as assistant. Only the third student performing the procedure should be evaluated. JOINT: Instructions to be read to students: “Your patient is an 18 year old who fell while skateboarding. He has no spinal injury and is stable. Please treat isolated deformity to the elbow” LONGBONE: Instructions to be read to students: “Your patient is an 18 year old who was piled on during a football game. He has no spinal injury and is stable. Please treat isolated deformity to the lower leg.” - Splint Kit - Cohort Bag
Precautions: Do not lead the student or correct performance. This is a testing station and no feedback should be offered.
